We're moving into a villa
Daily Pet Supplies is moving to a restored French-colonial villa on Street 542 — growing from a shop into somewhere you can spend the afternoon: a bigger store, a cat café, a grooming room, and an off-leash dog park in the walled courtyard.
Until the doors open, everything runs from our Sen Sok shop exactly as it does now.
The villa pictures below are design visualisations, not photographs. The building is real and the renovation is under way — these show how we intend it to look when it opens.
A 1960s villa that will learn new tricks
When we found No. 19, it was a French-colonial-era villa with good bones and better details: arched hallways, maroon wainscoting, columned porches, red concrete vent screens throwing lace-patterned shade, and a mango tree running the courtyard. The easy move would be to gut it. We're not going to.
We're renovating around what makes it a house, so that shopping there will feel like visiting someone who happens to own every good pet product in Phnom Penh. The calico on our sign is real, and she has already claimed the café.
Original features we're keeping:
- Arched hallways
- Maroon wainscoting
- Columned porch
- Red vent screens
- French folding doors
- Checkered bathroom tile
- The mango tree
- The spirit house
Four things we're building
Visualisation
A bigger pet supply store Planned
The villa's former reception rooms and old kitchen will hold a larger shop floor, with room for far more of the brands we can't fit in Sen Sok today.
Visualisation
A cat café Planned
A former bedroom three steps down, with its original French folding doors and checkered tile — coffee, cake, and resident rescue cats.
Visualisation
A grooming room Planned
A dedicated 5 × 5 m room at the back for baths, haircuts, nails and de-shedding — gently, and without cages.
Visualisation
An off-leash dog park Planned
The walled brick courtyard, shaded by the mango tree that was there decades before us, turned into fenced off-leash turf.
The plan, room by room
How the four spaces will sit inside the building and its courtyard.
How we found it, and where it's going
Three corners of the villa: photographed the week we got the keys, and visualised as we intend to finish them.
The courtyardMango tree, stone table and spirit house already in residence. The plan is to leave all three exactly where they are and put off-leash turf around them.
Three steps downThe vent screen and the black-and-white tile were here first. We're cleaning them and leaving them where they are — this will be the café's doorway.
The French doorsScuffed walls, good bones, and one very good patch of afternoon light. That's where the cushions are going.
